Governance
Our County Board of Trustees is an important part of the day-to-day running of our county and exists to support the Lead Volunteer for South London Scouts in meeting the responsibilities of the appointment and to provide support for our county team and districts. The board meets bi-monthly and is committed to being a exemplar of good practice in governance.
All members of the County Board of Trustees are charity trustees of the county; this is important, and all board members must be aware of their responsibilities. When a person is elected onto the board they are there to represent the county and in turn are there to participate in decision making from a county point of view. Our trustees are responsible for carrying out their role with due regard to the purpose of scouting and acting as a responsible person.
The County Board of Trustees is specifically responsible to the County Scout Council and has a focus on supporting:
- our county strategy and development plan
- key policy decisions
- County finances
-
additional insurances
-
supporting administration at all levels
-
annual census of membership and collection of membership fees
-
complying with legislation applicable to English charities
-
The provision and management of professional staff
-
the raising of additional funds
