Safety training

Doing things safely is fundamental to everything we do in scouting. This safety training needs to be completed by everyone who holds an appointment in scouting and ensures that you understand your responsibilities for keeping everyone in scouts safe and how to assess and manage risk.

It's important that safety training is completed within the first five months of your role start date (as recorded on your membership record on Compass), and then kept up to date. It is required to be renewed every three years.

There are five lessons in the module and an assessment at the end. You’ll need to score 100% in the assessment to unlock the certificate of completion.

The training covers:

  -  The safety policy and your responsibilities for keeping young people
and adults in our movement safe
  -  How to assess and manage risk
  -  The role of the leader in charge
  -  What to do in an emergency, and how to report incidents and near misses
  -  Know where to access safety resources, activity rules and guidance for
      the safe management of activities.

This training is independent learning, so you don’t have to attend a course to complete it. Simply click on the link below:

Please note:

This module produces a certificate at the end of the learning.  You will need to print or screen shot this and pass it on to your training advisor who will be able to validate the module on Compass.

If you are unable to print your certificate for any reason please save it as a .png file or take a screen shot of the page. Please do not save the web link as an alternative to printing the certificate, as this will expire once you leave the browser and your certificate will be lost. If your certificate will not load and only shows a blank screen please take a screenshot of the final page prior to selecting the certificate as proof of learning.

Safety for managers and supporters

This learning is aimed at those in manager and supporter roles.

This learning is delivered through a workbook which takes you through a series of tasks relating to safety and your role as a manager. After completing the training you will need to validate your knowledge, using the published validation criteria for managers and supporters.
